Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery describes operations that are performed through small ½ inch incisions. These techniques were developed to decrease trauma to the patient's body and thereby speed recovery. Traditional or open surgery involves the surgeon making long cuts through the skin, muscle, and sometimes even the bone – which may require weeks to months of recovery.
Endoscopic Surgery
Small, fiber optic telescopes can be used to look into the internal plumbing of the urinary tract, including up into the kidney.
Robotic Surgery
The da Vinci System is a sophisticated robotic platform designed to expand the surgeon's capabilities.
Laparoscopic Surgery
This is a technique that utilizes thin instruments and a lighted telescope to look and work inside of the abdominal cavity.
